Niuen Language week

Today is niuean language week ends but I learnt how to say hi, hello and buy, fakaalofa atu means hi or hello and Nakai Fakaune means to say no thank you. I also learnt the niuean words for monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday and friday which is aho gofua(monday) aho ua(tuesday) aho lotu (wednesday) aho tuloto( thursday) ahu falale (friday). That is all I learnt for niuean language week.

Dr Thierry's visit

Dr Thierry visited us yesterday and we had a lot of fun, we looked at how an onion root started off and also the microscopic cells inside of it.

We looked at a foscola worm in a 40x scope, just from the weakest scope we could see the cells little tiny circles inside the worm, it was definitely fun to learn about science and what's inside microscopic insects. I found it fun to draw what we saw inside and out, the best microscopic insects were the dragonfly wing and the weird circle thing.

After this Dr Thierry explained to us why chickens lay eggs without having an embryo inside of it.

Technology / Tracing the shilouette

Today I traced my image which was a cross onto a piece of flat wood. After that I used a machine with a saw to cut out the cross. Then my tech teacher (MR Grundy) had to help me cut out the corners. After that he clamped the two flat pieces of wood together with the coutout in the middle and then slowly poured a metal like substance.

After waiting five minutes for the metal to cool down I then took it out of it's casing and started sand papering it until it was sharp and straight. Unfortunatly time went by and the bell rang to soon, I didn't have enough time to finish. But after we tidyed up our work space we played a game with matches.

Technology

At tech we wrote a workbook that contained how we'd make our pandants and the plan to do so, also we had to make spicific images to make it. The word for the images was called silhouette. Basically this was an image with an outline and a black filling. The worksheet we worked on was just about what your freinds, family members liked. Also adding a picture of what the do/like.

EG

Ben likes to run around and play games.
You would add in a shoulette picture of a running person and also a gaming thing.

Sugar

Sugar - Healthier. Happier.
Sugar is a sucrose that is made from sugar canes, first they  extract the juices from sugar canes and then they perifie and filter it. When this is done you'll get raw sugar, the types of sugar that we learnt about today were new.  The types of sugars we learnt were raw sugar, brown sugar, white sugar, nector, honey suckle, sugar cane, icing sugar, sugar powder, caramel, maple syrup, honey, and plain sugar.
The fun and interesting facts about sugar was that the avarage men in nz eat about 98g of sugar, while the estimated sugar that we're only meant to eat is about 6-8 grams.
Also did you know that honey is healthy only if you eat like a t-spoon. If you walk into a diary and you see stuff like chips, chocolate, and bars, check the labels behind the packet because of the food and juck are uselay about 25-30 grams of sugar.

Science

Bones of the Cat-All About The Cat's Skeleton | Cat-World
At tech we learnt cool stuff about bones and everything inside the fish's body. We found out that the bones on fish are very small and fragile. They also had like a skull that had cracks inside but were like fuzed together. The interesting things that we found out was the fish only had about 130 bones in their head. The bones and flesh carried a jello substance which in some places are used to make jelly, We got told that this liquid also made things thicker.

Matariki

Art in the Community

Today when we went to te-oro in G.I we were welcomed with maori greetings. The people there were freindly to us when we were in classes, my class did some matariki patterns. The first patterns were called koru, it was bassicaly a plant that curls up into a circle like thing. The second pattern was a lot differnt because it was a face of a hammer head shark that had horu as their head. The third pattern was called kaperua and also the fourth was called niho taniwha. Towards the end my class got told a story that inspired most of us. After that we got to do fun activities like painting a rock to your own personality. The fun bit of it was we got to talk while painting and also Fire Kahu tought I some ways to paint our rocks. At the end we all sang a song together as a matariki celebration.

Rugby

Every week, we go for rugby sessions on Tuedays, this week we did some games. The first drills we did was just passing the ball up and down through the line, while also running up and down with the line. The games we played we cool because we had to run to each goal line and score. I found rugby sports very simple and cool.

Founding the Mean, Median, Mode and Range

My first number problem im going to share is 2, 2, 5, 8 , 1, 12

To find the mean you have to add up all the numbers together and then you have to divide it with how many numbers there are.

E.g 2 + 2 + 5 + 8 + 1 + 12 = 29
Then divide it by 5 which 4.8

To find the median you have to arange the numbers from smallest to largest, then cross out the numbers in order from left to right until you get to the middle, if you get two numbers leave it as it is.

E.g 1, 2, 2, 5, 8, 12
arrange the numbers first and then cross out the numbers from left to right.
The median is 2 and 5

To find the mode you just have to look for the number that occurs the most.
The mode is 2

The range is simple all you do is minus the lowest number from the highest number which in this case is 2 - 12 = 10

Skeletons

No Bones About It: The Human Skeleton is Fascinating! - Portable Press

Every Tuesday we go down to technology to learn about science, today we learnt facts about skeletons and bones. Both humans and animals, we also got a look at a fish's skeleton. The facts we learnt today was that the biggest bone in our body is found inside our legs which is called fever. However the smallest bone in our body is found inside our ear that help's us hear. Also when we are born we only have 300 bones, then as we grow we get 206 bones as an adult. The reason because of this is that when we grow, our bones mend with smaller bones that create bigger bones.

Mirobes

More than ninty percent of microbes are useful or either non harmful and only one percent of microbes are bad, did you know milk turns into yoghurt because of some microbes either live in milk or joghurt. And also the best thing is that they eat all your rubbish such as apple cores, orange pills and many other stuff like that.

Energy circuit

For the light bulb I connected one copper wire to the switch going to the bulb to turn it off and on, also we attached another copper wire to the battery leading to the switch to power it, which was positive. Then I connected another wire to the volt meter. also the end of the wire I put it on  the negative battery side. So this is how we did it, when we tested it the light turned on as I switched it on and off and also the volt meter was working as well. We used the voltmeter, switch, battery and a light bulb.

Also we learnt new vocabulary like : afiliman, tomstan, compact florescent which was a type of light bulb, origin (gas) and also mucury.

Animation

I chose this particular animation to create because a while ago, our teacher taught us how to make an animation. It was a basic see-saw rising up then going down, he repeated this step. When he presented, the slides came to life.

Numeracy - Basic Facts

On this boring site I found muiltipling, subtracting and adding eazy but I just need to focus a bit more on my adding up to 1000 and 100's, its eazy and all but sometimes I get confused.

Google form

Today we had to do a google form about great white sharks, it was pretty boring but the photos of them were cool! We also had to do 10 question with images in every box. I found this eazy but very annoying.

Prototec : Test

Sometimes on prototec the computer laggs and then like it goes to the next question fast. well my weeknesses is that sometimes I get confuesed on doing the subtraction, but times tables, dividing, mutiplying and that are eazy. I just need more time because it just the starting of the year.

Algebra

This morning we did some algebra problems, we worked out the math and then matched them with the correct answers. It was really easy for me because I was confident in maths, we also finished third because a mate mixed the answers around.
