Matariki

Art in the Community

Today when we went to te-oro in G.I we were welcomed with maori greetings. The people there were freindly to us when we were in classes, my class did some matariki patterns. The first patterns were called koru, it was bassicaly a plant that curls up into a circle like thing. The second pattern was a lot differnt because it was a face of a hammer head shark that had horu as their head. The third pattern was called kaperua and also the fourth was called niho taniwha. Towards the end my class got told a story that inspired most of us. After that we got to do fun activities like painting a rock to your own personality. The fun bit of it was we got to talk while painting and also Fire Kahu tought I some ways to paint our rocks. At the end we all sang a song together as a matariki celebration.
